Interactive Comic Book

Museum Voorschoten wanted to make the history and origins of the city of Voorschoten accessible and easy to understand for children. We decided to create an interactive comic book that highlights the most significant events from its history.

From the Ice Age to the Romans, the Middle Ages, and the period of Spanish rule—it can all be explored via a "time machine" available to visitors during the opening hours of Museum Voorschoten. Two children, Sami and Floortje (in the final year of primary school), are the protagonists of the comic strip. Guided by the museum director, Mr. Bollebof, they travel through various historical eras using this time machine. The entire experience can be accessed via an interactive touchscreen.

Studio Krha made the excellent illustrations and together with 100%FAT we incorporated those images into an interactive 3D environment with parallax layering. This illustrated world is filled with a variety of characters, each with their own unique dialogue that sheds light on events from the history of Voorschoten. In addition, information boards containing further background details can be found throughout each time period.
